About

Written in a clinic, not a marketing office.

StrokeWise is published by Liberia Neurology — an independent initiative working toward better neurological care, and better outcomes for the patients and families living with it.

🩺

“Every week, families leave the hospital frightened and unsure. They have a hundred questions and nowhere to take them. StrokeWise is the guidance we wish we could send home with every one of them.”

— Liberia Neurology
Who writes this

Liberia Neurology

Every guide on this site is written by a neurologist practicing at Liberia’s national referral hospital — someone who sees stroke patients and their families every week, and who knows what a household here can realistically manage.

That last part matters. Most stroke guidance available online assumes a rehabilitation team, a hospital bed at home, and a pharmacy around the corner. Ours assumes what you actually have.

The work is grounded in current international guidance — the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recommendations on stroke prevention and recovery, and World Health Organization guidance — adapted for care in a resource-limited setting. Each guide lists the sources it draws on.

What we are working toward

Better neurology. Better outcomes.

🏥

Care that reaches further

Good neurological care should not stop at the hospital door. Most of recovery happens at home, in the weeks and months afterward — and that is where families are currently left with the least support.

📘

Guidance people can act on

Plain language, no jargon, and advice that fits a real Liberian household. A guide nobody can follow has done nothing, however correct it is.

🛡️

Prevention first

The second stroke is the one we can most often stop. Blood pressure, medicines, and the warning signs that mean act now are free on this site and always will be.

Independent

Who we are not

Liberia Neurology is an independent initiative. It is not a government programme, a professional association, or a department of any hospital, and it does not speak for any institution. It is clinicians writing for the families they see.

Important

A caring guide — not a replacement for your doctor

StrokeWise offers trustworthy education and support to help you understand and manage recovery well. It does not replace your own doctor’s care, examinations, or advice — and it is never a substitute for emergency help. If you notice stroke warning signs or any urgent symptom, seek care immediately.
